Last Thursdays

In summer of 2020, in the heart of the first lockdown, I ran an online creative writing workshop as a fundraiser for Action for Refugees in Lewisham. The idea was to create an inclusive space where people could come together to write, no prior experience or preparation needed. No obligation to share, and no pressure to finish with a product.

People logged on to Zoom (many for the first time!), gave the activities a go and were incredibly generous with their presence, kindness, time and donations. I had always envisaged that this would be a one-off, but after the workshop people asked me when the next opportunity to get together would be, to have some fun with words and raise awareness and funds for causes we hold close to our hearts. So it became a monthly workshop, held on the last Thursday of the month, and here we are two years later!

The pieces (drawings, photos, prose, poetry) you will find in this publication were all created either during these last Thursdays from wherever they joined the meeting from: kitchens, living rooms and gardens (or the idea for them was planted then). There are common themes; nature, our place in the universe, togetherness, places and the spaces we love, to name a few.

The anthology was distributed as a PDF to everyone who participated.
